How to Store Pool Shock Safely, or Use Vinegar Instead
Переглядів 2,2 тис.7 років тому
Pool Shock, or powdered chlorine chemical, is great for emergency preparedness purposes, but it's extremely concentrated and dangerous, and you HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING in order to store it safely. I used ½" and ¾" spade drill bits, and the filters used were ceramic dome water filters and RapidPure water filters. Important to not store your "Pool Shock" / powdered chlorine chemical anywhere where it can get damp or just a little bit wet. It's reactive and corrosive, off-gassing dangerous chemical gasses and even starting fires. Keep it stored away from metal and moisture, and don't store it where it can get over 110 degrees F. And have parents make the sanitizing solution in the little jars for their ki...
Sunshine Nugget & Silver Nugget vs. the Country Living Grain Mill

Compare the Sunshine Nugget & Silver Nugget with the Country Living Grain Mill. In the video I said the CLGM has a 20-year warranty, but I just learned it also has a lifetime warranty, just like the Nuggets, except for the grinding plates, which like the grinding stones are wear-outable parts. I've heard recently that the Silver Nugget, which is not painted (not powder-coated), flakes off the s...

Just needed a pump for my ice chest. I bought a very simple bulb syringe style. Did enjoy your video though. I did have a couple of battery operated pumps but they didn’t last long. I prefer to avoid buying batteries if possible. Most of my camping gear is usb. I avoid propane as well. ❤❤❤

How well will that shaker siphon hose work if you're starting with about a foot of water in the bottom of the barrel?

Awesome video. I am looking for something to empty my inflatable bathtub back into the actual bathtub. I was told the shaker hose must move downward, it seems the shaker pulls up out of the barrel just find. The shaker I would use would only be about 2 ft. deep up/over into the bathtub. Thank you.

I used it to get water out of an aquarium. It is used to unclog your sink. Mine had German on it. But I saw a YT vid on it. Harbor Freight - Pittsburgh Automotive Multi-Use Transfer Pump Review. Same Idea. I used it to get the air out of my long tube and so get the water to my kitchen sink. It worked perfectly. You leave the tube hanging on the ground and it gets the momentum to reach the sink. The Romans already used this simple principle.

Actually for this and a lot of other applications one only needs a length of 3/8" clear tubing. For this barrel application I would use 10-12 feet of tubing. You just feed most all of the tubing into the barrel or fuel tank, whatever, pinch the end or cap the end with your thumb and pull the tubing back out. The pinch or your thumb capping the end has the same effect as sucking. When you are pulling the tubing out, you are pulling the liquid out to continue syphoning. May not work great with fuel tanks that have baffles in them as it isn't very likely but the tubing could possibly get hung up in the baffling.

Barrel pumps are very handy, especially for the large 200 litre/50 USG type. We use them for storing water, gasoline and Diesel fuel mainly, which brings me to my point: if you keep more than one type of liquid on hand, it's not a bad idea to have a separate, dedicated pump for each type, and to label the pump at least 2 ways. We've adopted the colour convention that usd to be standard for jerry cans - red for gasoline, yellow for Diesel, blue for water. Each pump is painted in the colour, and the word "water" or "gas" or "Diesel" is put on with a paint marking pen. (Those can be bought from welding supply stores for less than $2 each, and they paint in them is very durable). Of course, you can adapt that to match whatever colour scheme you're using. Although the plastic pumps have become quite good, they do not fare so well in very cold temperatures. I'm old enough, and old-fashioned enough that I still use metal barrel pumps. These are readily available for gas, Diesel, oil, etc. but can also be found in a "water-safe" version. (I believe that type has an internal poly coating, but I haven't taken mine apart). I've found that some of the industrial supply houses sell this type of pump cheaper, and of a better quality, than some of the 'consumer" supply outlets. Doing this may seem like overdoing things, but it's a way to avoid the chance of cross-contamination - easy enough to do by accident if someone is tired, or if it's dark. Thanks for making this video.

I think this is a bit more complicated than it needs to be. You can use a perineal bottle of warm water to squirt to clean yourself & then just dry w/a washcloth. You can get bottles of perineal spray just like hospitals use that do not require rinsing.....spritz a little on a cloth, use to clean yourself. No gloves needed. Using regular soap is going to require a thorough rinsing. Perineal bottles are the poor man's bidet & the nice thing about them is most have a nozzle which simplifies the process.....fairly inexpensive. I got mine for $7. each. Food for thought: why are so many of us content using just dry tp after going to the toilet? Would we be OK using just dry tp to clean off #1 or #2 if it was anywhere else on us ? Probably not. We'd want water. Water cleans better.

This video is similar to various instructional videos I've seen made from the 40s/50s where there's only pure info, no fluff, and really gets the job done. Thanks. I'm curious if this would work for syphoning water from a tub to a toilet tank (which is elevated higher than the tub) when water is shut off in our apartment. Might need to do an experiment next time. In a gender blind world, it wouldn't matter that you're an older woman doing such a useful video, but, from what I've learned, women have a lot of useful things to communicate, and a lot of them get ignored by stubborn men who don't know how to listen. In other words, I'm glad I didn't have to watch another 20 to 40 something guy not actually show liquid coming out of the hose and at what rate.

Yes, you should be able to siphon from the tub to the toilet no problem. I use a couple of different types of safe ends when I am disinfecting and fully soaking my cat litter box and have to dump out or get rid of many gallons of water in a plastic tub on the floor into the toilet.

IDo you know of anything that will attach to a standard garden hose? I collect rain water in a barrel, but during big rainstorms the barrel will overflow. I want to set it up so that when the water gets to a certain level, I can start siphoning it off and drain it through a long water hose to another area. I live in Hawaii, so I get lots of rain at times, so I need to drain it off at times, but save it at others.
